Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) is a leadership development program organized by Rotary International. It’s designed for young people, typically aged 14-30, to help them develop leadership skills, engage in community service and understand the importance of ethical leadership and teamwork.
The program provides a unique opportunity for participants to interact with peers from various backgrounds, learn from mentors and explore ways to serve their communities.
1. Leadership Development: RYLA focuses on developing leadership skills by providing hands-on experiences, workshops and activities. Participants learn about effective communication, problem-solving, decision making and teamwork. It’s not just about leading other but also leading yourself.
2. Personal Growth: RYLA is about fostering personal growth and self-awareness. Through various challenges and activities, participants are encouraged to step out of their comfort zones, reflect on their values and discover their strengths and areas of improvement.
3. Community Service: One of the core values of RYLA is service above self. Participants learn how leadership can be used to make a positive impact on their communities. Many RYLA programs include service projects where participants work together to create or contribute to community initiatives.
4. Mentorship: RYLA participants are often paired with mentors, including Rotary club members or experienced leaders, who guide them throughout the program. These mentors offer valuable insights, share experiences and help participants think about how to apply leadership skills in real-life situations.
5. Networking and Collaboration: Participants from various backgrounds and regions come together at RYLA events, creating an environment where they can build lasting relationships, exchange ideas and collaborate on leadership challenges.
6. Inspiration for Future Leadership: By the end of the program, participants are inspired to take on leadership roles in their schools, communities and future careers. Many go on to become active leaders in their Rotary clubs, schools or other organizations.
Overall, RYLA aims to nurture the next generation of ethical leaders who are equipped with the skills, knowledge and mindset to make a positive difference in their communities and the world.
